Covenant Three- Abraham
Covenant Three. God moved His teenage children forward when the time was right. He choose Abraham for the future of a nation under God. God gave Abraham an everlasting covenant to be the God of Abraham and the God of all his descendants (Genesis 17:7). God allow Abraham’s family to grow in spite of all the problems of mankind in Abraham’s family. Abraham and his family suffered greatly from lack of faith, lies, trickery, rage, a stolen blessing, fear and abandonment of a child. God did not strike them down. This did not mean this behavior was acceptable to Him, far from it. Rather it meant He loved and cared for His children and would lead them to maturity. Their path to maturity lead them from a sheltered existence in Egypt which turned into a life of slavery and suffering and their need for God grew. We are the same people, our need for God grows in our despair and loss when there is no way out except God. We need a path to maturity. And the story has living proof in our religions today. Sarah and Hagar both became mothers to great nations, as God foretold.
