Covenant Two
When we look at Cain and Able we see young children in God’s family, in our families. God was leading them to responsibility. But they had little comprehension of right and wrong and anger and desire took over. The ends and the anger justified the actions and Cain murdered Abel. God was anguished but let Cain live and be marked forever. God waited for a Godly man to arrive, that followed His word and would place God’s direction above all else. God choose Noah to start a new life for mankind, and allowed a great flood to cover the earth. God gave Noah our next covenant. He told us that everything lives and moves will be food for us, but God will demand an accounting for every animal and from every human. God will demand an accounting for the life of another human being. (See Genesis 9) God’s second covenant addresses violence and the violent act of taking of another human life. As a parent you know some of the first lessons your child must learn is to obey you and also learn to control their own anger and willfulness. God gave us a rainbow for this covenant promise. Again whether you see this as symbolic or literal, the message is the same. And it can’t be ignored that realistic ark replicas have been made recently using the design given in the Bible.
